David Hamilton, High Altitude Guide

David HamiltonDavid Hamilton is one of the world’s leading high altitude mountain guides. A professional expedition leader and public speaker since 1987, he has led more than 70 climbing, trekking and skiing projects in the world’s great mountain ranges.

David has guided 16 different expeditions to Himalayan peaks higher than 7,500m, 9 of them to peaks over 8,000m. Included in this total are two trips to Mt Everest (1999 and 2003). In March last year, he a guided trip to Mt. Everest from the North side. His clients include veteran British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and Sibusiso Vilane, the first black African to summit Everest.

David’s Himalayan experience spans all the Asian countries that contain the world’s highest peaks: the Hindu Kush, Pakistan’s Karakoram, the Indian Himalaya, and the high peaks of China, Nepal and Tibet.

His expeditions over the years have visited most of the world’s other major mountain ranges, from the European Alps, Russian Caucasus and the Andes of South America, to the mountains of East Africa and the frozen wastes Antarctica. He has organized and led expeditions in Greenland, Norway, France, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, Mongolia, Turkey, Iran, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, and Antarctica.

David’s talks include more than just a ‘factual’ account of his often exhilarating, and breathtaking trips. In addition to his extensive experience in the world’s popular mountain ranges David also enjoys small-scale exploratory trips to remote and little known wilderness areas. Often returning to these remote places year after year, he has been welcomed into the local communities hearts and is able to give a very personal and first-hand account of the harsh lives of these mountain peoples.

David has amassed a collection of over high quality 15,000 colour slides illustrating a lifetime of mountain adventures. He has given over 200 lectures about his mountain adventures to a wide variety of audiences in the UK and overseas. These include: the general public, sports clubs, lecture associations, camera clubs, societies, schools, travel shows and business events

Everest North and South

A tale of 3 expeditions to the world’s highest peak showing the geographical and cultural differences between the Nepalese and Tibetan sides of the mountain. With dramatic high altitude pictures of climbing the mountain by the Southeast Ridge and most latterly - the North Ridge route - alongside team members Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Sibussion Vilane.

Karakoram Ski Traverse

The story of the first ever West to East ski crossing of the Karakoram Himalaya from Hunza to Baltistan via the high peaks and passes of the Pakistan China frontier. A spectacular 37-day journey of over 260km, and the most physically challenging project David has ever undertaken.

Snowcaps on the Equator

A journey through the East African countries of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda to climb the three highest peaks in Africa: Kilimanjaro 5895m, Mt Kenya 5199m and Mt Stanley 5109m. Enjoy the spectacular scenery, wildlife and vegetation of East Africa, whilst journeying from the vast open savannah plains, through lush cloud forests, to reach these majestic snow-capped mountain peaks.
