Tom Forrest, Resident Wine Expert - Vinopolis

Tom ForrestTom Forrest was born in Edinburgh. He first fell in love with wine at the age of 18 when he was given a bottle of Nuits St-Georges by a hotel manager. He has been teaching wine and spirits since 1982 and has been employed since 1999 at Vinopolis, London’s wine tasting visitor attraction as a resident wine expert.

He has been a judge and panel chairman at the International Wine Challenge since 1998, writes a wine column for the South London Press and is the author of The Complete Wine Course published by Carlton Books. He has appeared on This Morning and various local radio stations.

Talks

Tom’s job at Vinopolis is centred around communicating to the public, so he is well versed in public speaking. What works well with Tom’s talk is for the venue/organisation to arrange a wine tasting alongside the event. Many local wine shops are happy to bring along a sample of wines, and Tom is always willing to conduct a tasting at the end of his talk. (Bottles of the sample wines can then be sold at the end of the talk, therefore making the evening worthwhile for the wine merchant!).

Wine - A (full-bodied) story

In a delightfully illustrated talk, Tom Forrest, writer of 'The Complete Wine Course' and resident expert at London's Vinopolis unravels the mysteries surrounding the subtle art of viniculture. Touching on the notable milestones of this celebrated drink through the ages - and spanning an incredible 8,000 years - Tom takes us on a whistle stop tour of the world of wine, from its humblest biblical origins in The Caucasus Mountains to the grandest of Bordeaux chateaux and the most recent hi-tech million-dollar wineries in California. Served chilled with a bouquet of good humour!
