Richard Grundy – Specialist Speaker on the World's Most Remote Community
TalksRichard is a lively and experienced speaker who has addressed large and small groups, including over 700 world cruise passengers during a Tristan visit; various societies; WIs, and schools. He is able to bring his own equipment to deliver an animated Powerpoint presentation containing a unique collection of photographs which bring to life the community he talks about. In a visually stunning presentation, Richard touches on the island's wildlife, highlights particularly important moments in its history (including the 1961 volcanic eruption and subsequent evacuation), and explains how its present community is thriving despite environmental and economic difficulties. The talk contains many entertaining stories of Richard's experiences whilst living with one of the planet's most remarkable groups of people, including Ratting Day, rescuing a pupil from an octopus, cooking tips for penguin eggs and gathering guano and sea-birds on Nightingale Island.
